Hi, my name is David Cronk and I’m a full time Entrepreneur making a living in the new and dynamic industry of green building alternatives. Back in 2009 I stumbled upon the new exciting concept of Vertical Gardening. Having come from a farming background, gardening had long been a hobby of mine. That being said, I had no idea at the time that this vertical gardening discovery would later change my life. I know that statements like that are ‘cheesy’ and belong on late night sales pitches, but it is actually true. Being a Brisbane boy most of my life and working in the building industry for over 15 years, I really started to notice the influx in population. Brisbane’s skyline started to resemble a concrete jungle littered with steel monsters reaching to the sky everywhere I looked. I felt for all the people who had once enjoyed beautiful gardens or still desired one but lacked the room now due to unit and apartment limitations. It was because of this change in living conditions that I decided to start my own business. Within 72 hours I built my website – VGee Vertical Gardens and Skylights, where I’ve endeavoured to offer the benefits of natural lighting in the home and space saving vertical gardening ever since. As VGee has grown in popularity and begun to generate income, it has grown from a hobby (some would say an obsession), to a part time job through to a fully fledged business in recent times. I have slowly built my company into a secure income source that has enabled me to dedicate more time to directing it toward not only a successful company but also a company with a great moral compass. With a focus toward more bio sustainable home editions VGee is making measurable progress, but we can do better and we can do more. Recently in 2010, VGee was indorsed by the Australian Koala Foundation as a ‘green’ company, which we are all very proud of. VGee will be installing a roof top vegetable Vertical Garden arrangement on their premise later in 2011. We all think it would be cool to hold a charity lunch using the food that we grew ourselves on a roof in the city. Fingers crossed this crazy weather lets up, I will keep you posted.
