Profile:
In 1995, while pregnant with my first child, I attended my first birth, not because I felt drawn to it but because I was in the right place at the right time. That birth changed everything for me. A few short months later, and after a divine and amazingly pain free birth experience I fell into the depths of postnatal depression. It was like a fire that consumed me and when I rose from the ashes, some 12 months later I felt the power of the phoenix came with me. I studied for two grueling years to become a yoga teacher. Learning the fundamental principles of both traditional yoga and Masanagas’ system of shiatsu meridians and seasonal energy patterns. As my skills as a teacher grew, and so did my belly, two more times, I used my own experience of prenatal yoga to form the philosophy of the classes I teach today. In 2000, I formalized my qualifications as a doula and went on to study childbirth education with the famous doula and educator Denise Love. Now some 15 years later I run Avalon Yoga studio where I promote seasonal attunement thru food and yoga practice, I run yoga intensives every season as well as seasonal workshops on meridians, food and philosophy. Under the Barefoot Birth umbrella, I teach my birth philosophies in holistic childbirth preparation courses and inspire women to trust and confidence thru yoga and breath work. I also provide active support for births in homes and hospitals all over Sydney. I am grateful that my life’s experiences and challenges have allowed me to be of service to others in this way. Namaste
