Chakra Two

Chakra Two

Svadhisthana

The second chakra’s sanskrit name is Svadhisthana.  The element in connection to the second chakra is water. Oddly, the color that resonates with this chakra is orange.  It seems strange since water is not associated with this color.  It is located between the navel and root chakra (lowest area of the trunk of our body).

The main subjects related to this chakra are the emotions and sexuality.  So like that of water, the goal of this chakra is fluidity- keeping the energy in the body moving.  Like the tides of the sea going in and out, back and forth, so is that of our emotions.  The energy needs to keep moving and experiencing change to stay fresh, otherwise it becomes stagnate.  This leads to the definition of emotion, which is: energy in motion.

Subjects relating to the second chakra are:

Emotions

Sexuality

Change

Movement

Water

Intimacy

Socializing

Desire
Sensuality

Pleasure

Polarity- i.e. masculine/feminine, yin/yang

The body areas that this chakra is connected to are:

Sacrum

Genitals

Affects the hips

Knees

Lower Back

Spleen

Foods that help stimulate the second chakra are:

Fruits such as: bananas, watermelon, pears

Ice cream

Chocolate

Pastas

Milk & Dairy Products

Honey

Bread and Butter

These foods help if the second chakra is understimulated, for instance if someone is feeling numb and apathetic.  If the senses are overactive, then eat less of these foods.

Sense oriented activities help with balancing this chakra.

Therefore the following influences the second chakra:

Listening to classical music

Cooking

Gardening

Dancing

Viewing Art

Sex with Someone Who Loves You & Whom You Love

Anything that stimulates the senses (smell, taste, touch, sight, hearing)

Flowers (looking at them, smelling them)

Massage

Bathing (bath or shower)

Swimming

Journaling about feelings

Burning Incense

Burning Candles

Imbalances in the second chakra show up as:

Stiffness

Emotional Instability or Numbness

Isolation

Sexual Addiction

Sexual Anorexia

Yoga poses that can help the second chakra are:

Goddess Pose

Pelvic Rocks (lay on your back & pull your knees towards your chest- rock back & forth)

Child’s Pose (with open hips-knees are spread apart, yet bending over like the usual way this pose is done.  Arms extended forward.)

Downward Faced Puppy

Cat Pose

*Stones that are helpful for the second chakra are:

*Carnelian- good for emotional warmth, vitality, sociability, creativity, individuality, happiness, courage, self-esteem, sexuality, fertility, protects one against envy, rage and resentment.

*Coral-since coral comes from the sea it is said that it helps with emotional healing.  It also brings peace, stimulates intuition, enhances fertility, relieves stress.  Is said to aid conception & mother-child bonding.

*Flower Essences that can help balance this chakra:

*Hibiscus- creates flowing warmth throughout the body and soul, especially healing the person’s sexuality.

*California Poppy- helps with receptivity to emotional cleansing, sensitivity, sensuality, and wisdom.  When taken it purifies the emotions.

Since this chakra is connected to the water element, looking at your connection to water can help.  Activities such as bathing, swimming, visiting a river, a lake, the ocean, or watering your plants can help one with this chakra.  The fluids you drink are connected to this chakra as well.  Be aware of your need for liquids and the way it feels when you consume them.  Also, since change is connected to this chakra, change things up.  Walk to work a different way or ride your bike instead of driving.  If you go to the gym every day, go to a yoga class instead.  If you go to yoga all the time, go to a dance class instead.  If you catch yourself saying things like- “I never do…”  This can be a signal to switch it up or try the thing you think you will never do. When it comes down to it, all of this is related to nurturing yourself.  Pay attention to your feelings, feel what you are feeling, allow yourself to have your feelings, and nurture yourself.  Be good to yourself.

have a great week Everyone,

Cheri
