As I sit here at midnight I feel guided to talk about sleep, of all things! Sleep is essential to your overall appearance and wellbeing. Sometimes I avoid hopping into my nice comfy bed because my mind will tell me all of the things I could be doing, experiencing or getting done instead of sleeping. But how good does it feel when you actually lie down for the first time after a long day? That is such a wonderful and beautiful feeling. If you don’t get enough sleep, you won’t have the ENERGY to experience all of the things you want to – another reason sleep is essential! Every time I lie down for the first time I think the exact same thing, “Why didn’t I lie down sooner?”
Sleep is really very important. I don’t know about you, but I notice a significantly positive difference in my everyday performance, my mood, my eating habits, and my overall ability to cope with everyday stressors, after a full night’s sleep.
So this week, make a commitment to yourself that you will get at least 6-8 hours of sleep each night. We’ll do it together! It can be very helpful to achieve a “health” goal when you are held accountable by friends, bloggers/experts/coaches or family. So I’m in… are you??
If you have trouble sleeping, here are some things that have helped me dose off or stay sleeping throughout the entire night – maybe they will work for you too:
- Lavander Essential Oil ( I breathe this in 4-5 times with big deep breathes. I also dab some of this on my pillow before bed )
- Melatonin ( Make sure you have 8 hours to sleep at night because you will feel a bit tired waking up from this is if you get any less than 8 hours ) Melatonin is naturally produced in your brain before you fall asleep, so some extra helps get you and keep you there!
- A SleepMate White noise machine. These help to lull me to sleep.
- Lights Out! I always make sure all of my electronic devices are completely switched off ( I sound like I could be a flight attendant! ). I sleep with my phone next to my bed so I place it face down and on silent.
- Reiki. I am a Reiki healer, so often times I will give myself Reiki. I actually give distance Reiki sessions to some clients before they go to bed which is also helpful! Reiki is life force energy channeled through the healer to the receiver. It balances the energy centers in your energetic field, thus balancing you and bringing you pure relaxation and peace.
- Journal. If your mind races fastest before bed, get a special journal and write down all of your thoughts, without editing them. Just write out everything you are thinking and feeling. Download all of the chatter in your head, onto the piece of paper. This releases it from your mind and body which will help you relax and de-stress.
I always believe that what you read you read for a reason, so perhaps this is a reminder to you and me to catch some extra Zzz’s so we can be fully functioning, incredible, and vibrant beings all week long!
See you in my dreams
Lots of Love,
Lianda
