Ethical style is to be making morally conscious decisions to do what’s best for you and for the environment. Or could be Defined as the production of textile items using a conscience. The design concept and the quality of worked produced reflect ethical practices which promote a sense of commitment to the sustainable future of the planet. Fashion houses are no exception. Far more and a lot more fashion designers and textile producers are striving to produce goods that usually do not harm the environment and are cruelty-free. Ethical problems in fashion are emerging.
Being aware of your choices and how they contribute to the wellbeing of yourself and others in itself is empowering. It’s amazing what small changes will do. What is more amazing is the impact those small changes have when everyone is making them harmoniously.
I am a big fan of keeping it simple… ‘Let us live simply so that others can simply live’. Style doesn’t have to be sacrificed for ethics. Ethical Fashion today features a wide range of amazing fabrics and designs both in Australia and Internationally. I find it to be a great oversight that we for so long have been able to collectively block out the reality of where most of our belongings come from. If you are participating on a whole, and I mean a collective whole, in a state of awareness knowing that you have made not only a fashion savvy choice, but a responsible choice, what I like to call “guilt free fashion”… this has got to make you feel great both inside and out.

BIO:
Since I was a child, various forms of art have always inspired me but I feel my
origin was based on contemporary art and design…There was always a penchant for simple observations on life and philosophy, arts and fashion design were instrumental forces in the path that led to my current role.
The JOYFRENCH collaboration funnily enough just happened and still continues to, too my surprise ..The JOYFRENCH label began in 2006 with the concept of collaborating my artwork with simple tees and producing a range of limited edition art prints on organic, eco friendly and fair trade raw and edgy t- shirts.
With such a great response from the public I decided to broaden the range and added new styles – hoods, sweaters, underwear, singlets, Maxi dresses, and vests. This has now become a full collection and is a well sort after art scene underground clothing label. I have always been committed to the creative process. I want people to become conscientious consumers rather than just consumers. Eco friendly options that looked cool and were originating from original art, to form the concept of ready to wear ,wearable art yet bringing us back to nature . The Label is about quality and longevity in design that pushes the envelope of style. So in essence you feel and look great , wearing a garment that also speaks for the environment.
Iam committed to using the finest textiles that support the sustainability of the environment and the human rights of the people involved in their manufacture. My website, JOY FRENCH GALLERY, is dedicated not only to the promotion of the collection, but to raising the awareness of those who access it to human rights issues.
Small boutiques in Australia, that are committed to ethical trade practices, have taken up the label with great enthusiasm.
