Spoiler Alert: The Santa Truth

the secret Christmas

When we offer the story of Santa to our darling children we can give them a gift which is so special and also incredibly wonderful!… We give them magic. It is a magic that is offered to all children and adults globally durning this season whether religious or not and whether they celebrate Christmas or not! I am speaking of the sensations around Christmas and the deeper meaning of the season. The feelings around this time of year are indeed quite special and may even be considered even as love, for some. Personally I adore this season as a time

Parenting Ideas for the Holidays

family cycling

So the holidays are here and it can be tricky blending the needs of different family members, co-ordinating children with our own work and personal demands. Sometimes we feel overwhelmed and revert to unproductive parenting styles rather then thinking positively and creatively. It is easy for the chaos to escalate, voices to soar and tempers to fly. Here are a few POWER TO PARENTS points I discuss in TICKLISH. Be a selective audience—consider what you are giving attention to Sometimes we get hooked into our child’s tantrum and we may even want to stomp after them and have the last

Can coconut oil help reverse aging?

COCONUT OIL

Evidence from Australian Researchers In 1998 at the age of 62 a tragedy occurred in the life of John Engelmann. Almost overnight his hair turned white, and his body became extremely thin. He wasn’t feeling well, but wouldn’t admit that anything was wrong. He was overcome with lethargy. John was unable to drive more than 40 kilometres without having to pull over for a nap. This persisted and he was diagnosed with chronic fatigue syndrome. He was ageing rapidly. John started having severe arthritic pains in his right hand and right foot. He was told he had arthritis and that

Dairy and Cane Sugar-free Oatmeal Cookies

oatmeal cookies

There is something about oatmeal cookies that conjures up nothing but wholesome memories. The warm milk and cookie moments you wish you could snuggle back into when times get tough. Your Mum’s home-baked varieties were undoubtedly healthier than highly processed ‘baking’ on the supermarket shelves, but I’ve come up with an (even) healthier version still! These comforting cookies are a nourishing treat, with coconut sugar and coconut butter/oil being the star players when it comes to converting the traditional recipes, which use butter and cane sugar. I would like to say a big thank you to Richard of Niu Life

Loving Earth’s Maca: The Superfood of the Andes

maca blog

Last week we started taking at look at Maca through the lens of Nadine’s wonderful experience, as she told us how the incredible Peruvian root helped her overcome fertility issues that seemed to be insurmountable. This week we’ll be discussing the finer details of Loving Earth’s Maca, how it’s grown and why so many people are discovering the health benefits to be gained from its use. Growing beyond the tree line 4,000 metres above sea-level, the Maca root is one of the only edible plants that can be found at this altitude. It’s considered one of the main superfoods, primarily

Surviving The Silly Season

silly season

‘Tis the season to be jolly’…….ok so let’s be honest, if there’s any time of year that will see us over indulging and stretching our liver to the limits, it’s the lead up to Christmas and new year – aptly known as the silly season!  So rather than be in denial and kid ourselves of the reality, I’d rather offer you some sound advice on how to protect your liver through this time and lessen the blow, then we can focus on the mop up in the new year! Silly season is also the time of year we particularly want

Green Washers Get Busted….Finally!!

organic

As of this June, California’s Organic Production Act finally sought action against numerous personal care companies who have fraudulently claimed to be “organic.” Despite the Act’s requirement of all products labeled “organic” to contain “at least 70% organic ingredients,” more than 30 companies have been found using false labeling and even using synthetic and harmful ingredients. The Center for Environmental Health has settled with 11 companies, who have agreed to either change their labeling or ingredients used by March 2012. However, there are still numerous brands, sold nationally in chains such as Whole Foods and CVS, who have refused to

What are the two best ways to develop a positive workplace culture?

work p

My favourite definition of ‘culture’, that I learned from a Fortune Magazine article in 1997, is this: “Culture is what people do when no one is telling them what to do”. How do you get people to almost naturally behave in positive ways that then creates a positive culture? One: articulate the purpose of the business . Two: articulate the values that are to govern behaviours in the business. People say the purpose of business is to make profits. I disagree. Profits are simply one of the goals, and certainly a precondition for survival, but not the purpose. As Arie

Scrambled Eggs with Veggies and Herbs

scrambled egg

We all know how important it is to have a healthy breakfast to start the day. I was recently at a delightful evening at *Soul Sessions here in Sydney and the topic was Fat Psychology with the co-authors of *“The Good Enough Diet” Tara Diversi and Dr Adam Fraser. They stressed how important it is to have some protein for breakfast to set you up right for the day.  They shared that there is some science behind getting the body you want. Ensuring you get some protein into your breakfast mix (eggs, organic sausages, fish) will give you slow release

Good fats? You must be coconuts!

smooze

Fats and oils are usually considered to be something we should all avoid; the medical establishment and health authorities always place these food constituents at the bottom of the priority list of any diet. That is, until relatively recently, when the importance of the essential oils – Omega 3 & 6, and others came to light. The body is made up of a complex array of building blocks which, at a very basic level, consists of water, proteins, minerals & fats. Fats have a fundamental role in the functioning of the body; they are the body’s energy provider and energy

Organic One Wines- Committed to Health

Organic1 5

Following my path of health researcher it took me down the road to Jerilderie 600km south-west of sydney. My husband and Kate McAloon- ‘chef to the stars’ were on our way to meet Frank Bonic and family at the Organic-One Winery. The name is a clever marketing tool. When I am asked what my favourite wine is and I say the ‘organic-one’ it is responded with; which one? THE ORGANIC-ONE. It is spelt out so therefore not easily forgotten. The winery (all 112 ha) has mineral rich soil and the proof was not only in the taste of the wine

Healing With Sound

bed

Energy Healer: Joan Clark About five years ago my friend Joan Clark was visiting Glastonbury, England, when she met Lui Krieg. She was traveling through the area and decided to visit his crystal shop, called Stone Age.  When her and her friends arrived, he asked them if they would like to   have a crystal sound healing.  They agreed.  He led them to his temple that he built near by.  She said the temple was beautiful with crystals and paintings and that is where she had her first experience on a sound table. This inspired her to get her own sound

VITALITY – Get Your Dose

simba

Last week I was truly blessed to finally meet Jen and Simon of “The Vitality Group” in Middle Park, Melbourne. Everyone at Vitality had the same focus… the focus being… to make a difference to, and to contribute in a positive way, to other people’s lives.  That focus aligns so well with Miranda and KORA Organics, what we stand for and ultimately what we are about. Jen and Simon are incredible at what they do. Being authors and practitioners I asked them tell our readers about their health center ‘Vitality’. -Therese Kerr Growing up in a family of holistic health

Absolutely Beautiful Event in Perth

Event.

The breakfast presented in Perth by KORA Organics was absolutely wonderful.   The food was amazing and the wealth of information that Therese and Kate shared was priceless.   I have enjoyed reading the KORA blog for a while now, and ‘Treasure Yourself’ is a book that I constantly re-read and refer to. They have both made a large contribution to my life in a positive way, and I am enjoying my journey to a healthy, organic lifestyle. I would also like to thank everyone that contributes to the blog, and everyone that helped create ‘Treasure Yourself’ because both are
